From pen to product: our Cotswold collection

Our product designer, Connor Fox, found inspiration for our latest lighting collection in the cottages that surround him in his native Cotswolds.

On moving into his own cottage, Connor was keen to light the rooms sympathetically. The unique mix of architecture and challenges that came with lighting irregular spaces led him instinctively towards creating our first freestanding table lamps.

‘When you go into a Cotswold village, each cottage is slightly different,’ he explains. ‘It’s wonky, the roofs are different. When you take a product and put it into that type of home, you want to reflect that.’

‘You want to add something that mirrors the house in a certain way,’ he tells us. ‘You want to create an old, warm feeling that can best be achieved with lamps dotted around you. It feels a lot more natural.’

In pursuit of his goal, Connor was given the freedom to experiment – a hallmark of the Corston approach.

‘As a designer here, we can go out and test lots of different materials and manufacturing processes,’ says Connor. ‘With the porcelain alone, we’ve gone through several iterations just to try and achieve what we have with this range.

‘Because of the processes involved you get this inconsistency with the thickness and shape of the porcelain. Each one’s a little bit wonky and unique, which adds character to the light.’
